Located just south of Manitowoc, Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center is an interactive education facility perfect for the whole family. Kids and adults alike can dig in to what makes farming fascinating with dozens of hands-on exhibits, a virtual tour of a dairy farm, and a visit to the awe-inspiring birthing barn.
Wisconsin is most well-known for being “America’s Dairyland,” but did you know that Wisconsin is one of the most agriculturally diverse states? Explore the 10,000 square-feet of hands-on exhibits to learn more about the food, fuel, and fiber produced in our great state. A stop in the Birthing Barn offers an opportunity to connect up-close-and-personal with an expectant dairy cow, ready to give birth. If the timing is right, guests can watch as a calf is born on site. Stick around to watch the calf’s first breath, first steps, and first meal – an experience unlike any other! The virtual tour of a dairy farm offers guests a look into a large, modern operation. Guests learn about all aspects of the farm and what is necessary to keep operations running smooth.
Full Calendar of Special Events
Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center also offers a full calendar of special events. Upcoming events include a celebration of Earth Day and a deep-dive into robotics in agriculture, taking place on April 22, and Derby Day, a day filled with hands-on activities surrounding horses and ponies on May 6. The discovery center is also offering a week long camp this summer.
An All-New Summer Camp
Farm Wisconsin has launched an all-new summer camp for 2023 where participants will dive deeper in to the world of Wisconsin agriculture. Campers will explore all aspects of our great state’s agriculture – from corn and cranberries to sheep and string beans. Campers will participate in hands-on activities, focused on the diversity of foods grown and raised in Wisconsin, partnering with local producers and experts.
Campers will step into the role of these producers and experts by: weighing a calf to evaluate health, soil sampling a crop field to determine soil type, and diving into what machines are necessary to harvest the feed that fuels our dairy cows. This summer camp is open to youth ages 10 – 12 at the time of camp.
Two identical sessions will be available during the summer: Monday, June 19 – Thursday, June 22 and Monday, July 10 – Thursday, July 13. Registration for camp is open now.
Whether a day trip or a week long camp, Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center is the ideal destination for families wanting to experience all that Wisconsin agriculture has to offer.
