Front Desk Attendant

Position Overview:

 Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center—a non-profit, state-of-the-art, interactive agricultural education center—connects visitors’ curiosity to the wonders of Wisconsin farming and provides guests with a better understanding of their food sources. The Front Desk Attendant represents that mission, providing excellent customer service and showing a passion for Wisconsin agriculture. This enthusiastic individual assists visitors with purchasing admission, Farm House Store items and ice cream. Candidates must be able to work weekends. This position is part-time, from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

 Required skills:

  1. Ability to multi-task and adjust work priorities based on new and changing conditions
  2. Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  3. Ability to clearly answer questions and provide guests with a courteous experience
  4. Knowledge and experience with computers; and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  5. Ability to maintain the cash register and Point of Sale (POS) system
  6. Knowledge of retail sales and point of sale marketing
  7. Basic math skills including adding, subtracting, making change, and determining percentages
  8. Receptive to feedback
  9. Ability to work both individually and interact effectively with other team members
  10. Ability to cross-train between front desk roles and responsibilities 
  11. Ability to lift 25 pounds and stand for the scheduled shift

Responsibilities:

  1. Greet and converse with all guests in a courteous, timely and professional manner
  2. Maintain a professional and welcoming appearance
  3. Follow all Farm Wisconsin policies, procedures and operations
  4. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the reception, gift shop, ice cream and café areas
  5. Scoop and serve ice cream to guests
  6. Assist in the café to create small plates of prepared food and serve to guests
  7. Responsible for maintaining correct inventory including entering, stocking and loss prevention
  8. Turn on and shut down Farm Wisconsin exhibits
  9. Answer the phone and direct or transfer the call as needed
  10. Perform other cleaning tasks throughout the building as needed
  11. Maintain the Farm Wisconsin brand in all facets
  12. Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Credentials:

  1. High School Diploma/GED required
  2. Excellent customer service skills. Must be welcoming, attentive, and responsive to our visitors and staff

 Preferred Experience:

  1. Prior retail experience
  2. Restaurant experience
  3. Successful work in a small team setting
  4. 1-2 years’ experience working in a high-volume attraction environment

Hourly Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour. Dependent on experience and credentials.

 

Kitchen Manager

Position Overview:

 Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center—a non-profit, state-of-the-art, interactive agricultural education center—connects visitors’ curiosity to the wonders of Wisconsin farming and provides guests with a better understanding of their food sources.The Kitchen Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of our Wisconsin Café, which provides a farm-to-table experience, as well as banquet events. Candidates must be able to work weekends. 

 Required skills:

  1. Develop farm-to-table programs that create new revenue streams and teach people about how locally grown food can be prepared at home
  2. Facilitate discussions about food pairings
  3. Develop menus for farm-to-table special events
  4. Lead cooking portion of culinary-themed high school field trips
  5. Order and receive all product and supplies
  6. Conduct inventories and analyze results to maximize profitability
  7. Develop relationships with vendors/distributors and resolve disputes quickly
  8. Schedule, train and mentor all kitchen staff
  9. Ensure compliance with State and Local Health Department regulations
  10. Create recipes, menus and strategies to control costs
  11. Responsible for cleanliness of kitchen and equipment maintenance
  12. Maintain safety standards in the kitchen

Wage will be based upon experience.
